Honoree: Jerry Maldonado

Jerry Maldonado

Jerry Maldonado

Jerry Maldonado is the director of Cities and States at the Ford Foundation, leading the foundation’s Just Cities and Regions, Detroit, and US states programs. In that role, he has supported social justice organizations in New York and across the US to develop leadership of those most impacted, strengthen our institutions, and build our movement.

His previous grantmaking work at Ford focused on bringing justice to the Gulf Coast in the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and in creating regional strategies for building stronger communities, among much else. Prior to that, he worked at governmental and non-governmental organizations, always with a focus on addressing inequality and advancing dignity for our communities.

Jerry is a trusted ally of movement-building organizations. In his role as a funder, he has recognized New York’s role in leading the nation in a progressive direction.  His support and guidance has facilitated some of our movement’s greatest victories, including the NYS Fund for Excluded Workers.
