Amy Goodman & Juan gonzalez
Amy and Juan have dedicated their lives and careers, working tirelessly–often at great personal risk–to expose injustice, ask difficult questions, and give a platform to those who are typically left out of mainstream media coverage. Democracy Now! has been a critical vehicle for telling the stories of members of our communities who are most impacted by racism, xenophobia, climate destruction and more. Amy Goodman’s long career as a writer and a journalist has touched on countless issues, from indigenous people’s land rights in North America to the role of US corporations in fomenting civil wars in Africa and Asia. In 1996, she co-founded Democracy Now!, which has become one of the most influential progressive news institutions. Juan González has been a professional journalist for more than 30 years. As a founding member of the Young Lords, he has inspired generations of community members to demand power and call for self-determination for Puerto Ricans and an end to racism. He later became a journalist, bringing his perspective to the Daily News and then Democracy Now! He is also a Professor of Journalism and Media Studies at Rutgers University. |
